Girls in ICT at Ericsson - a fantastic initiative!
Ok gals and boys...

Yesterday when I heard that the teachers at work were taking the girls in year 6 (they are 12 years old) to Ericsson for a day full of tech. I jumped straight in and asked if I could go... sooo today I´m headed to Ericsson for a day of tech with 27 12 year old girls. I think I´m more excited than the girls actually!!!

Anyhow....back to today. We headed out from school around 8 and arrived at Ericsoon a bit after that. We got a accesscard, wich alone I found awesome even if they spelled my name wrong, but how cares I ´m at Ericsson.
The day started with presentation of Ericsson and what the do nowadays, that was pretty good beacuase I realized when I was there that I dont now what they do nowadays, cause the only thing I remember about Ericsson is my first cellphone, you know the big ones, that actually had an antenna. There were three women that told us about what they do at Ericsson and how the got in tech, wich was really exiting stories, and got me thinking at what I wanted to do when I´m done with my studies...(which might be never.... with my plans).

Then the girls got divided in to different groups and was told that the got a topic and was supposed to find tech solutions to these topic that can help move the future in tech forrward. Me and my two colleagues that was with me went around and listen to the the girls and their ideas, and some of them were really good and that I would love to develop further or would see in the future. And some were really full of fantasy wich might never come alive, but they really got their heads in it.

Then there were lunch wich was good and better then school lunches wich it pretty much everything is, school food isn´t that exiting. During lunch I got started talking with a guy that works there and got inspired by talking to him. We talked code specially java (And I realised after I know c# I probably should learn java, cause many company use it to code). and then we went over agile systemdevelopment and I got really geeky for a while, I could probably try to pick his brain for the rest of the day but the poor man had to work unfortunately...

Anyway the day continued with three different station that talked tech with the girls. The first one is called the garage, and it looked so cool,  this is a place were employees at Ericsson can be innovative and try to create the next part of the tech future. Some of the ideas the told us about where the tech update that they done at their own office (it´s applied to most of their office), like when things are starting to get low in the bathroom the bathrooms let the cleaningpersonal know and they can refill the bathrooms that needs it instead of going to all of their 140 bathrooms, it was cool, and they can se the boardrooms and grouprooms are booked up, how many people is in the room or free in their office in copenhagen for example. It´s really nice and innovative and can probably be evolve to include other stuff in the office to.

The next station for the girls where a meet and greet where they could ask people from different departments in Ericssons questions about their jobs and i think that made some girls actually get a little bit interessted with made my happy. We finished our round with the history of ericsson and how they have evolved to what they are today..

The whole day was a success I think and I hope that at least one of our girls got interessted because that would be a hugh success. And how dosent want their office to have a space like that, where you can sit and work and enjoy the view...

Bye bye my darlings!
